So How Does It Work?
The scientist have found a chemical called DHA that actually reacts with your skin cells and turns the cells a dark color. This is not a dye and does not wash off. Over time as your skin cells slough off, the color will gradually fade. The amount of DHA in the sunless tanner will affect how dark you will get. A quality self tanner will give you a nice color for 5-7 days before fading.
What is a Bronzer?
Depending on the self tanner, it may take anywhere from a few hours to a day for the results to begin to show. Many product recommend not washing until the lotion can “soak in” overnight. Because many of us can be impatient, a bronzer is added to a self tanner to give you some immediate color while you wait for the self tanner to kick in.

There are very few risks associated with the best self tanners. The obvious benefit is you get the healthy golden color without the exposure to the sun’s dangerous rays. One important think to remember is that most Self Tanners DO NOT have sun block so if you will be in the sun, you should always use some sort of sun block to protect your skin.
